Rock on Mars: Stephen Sprouse @ Deitch Gallery

This weekend marks the start of my weekend side project installing the Stephen Sprouse exhibition at the Deitch Gallery in SOHO. S.Sprouse known in the 1980s as the king of day-glo and bringing the "downtown" flavor uptown is being honored by the gallery through a multimedia show representing his never exhibited before archive owned by his family. Sprouse who ran with the downtown motley crew including, Debbie Harry, created various fashion collections inspired by the downtown 80's New York scene. He paid tribute to Andy Warhol, Sid Vicious, street fashion, Keith Haring graffiti work and dressed rock stars such as Billy Idol and Axel Rose.
The eclectic archive includes anything from Polaroids Stephen took of his friends and the downtown party scene, to fashion sketches and wonderful iconic pieces from his collections- all exhibited in the show opening January 9, 2009. The exhibition will also include Marc Jacob's latest collection for Louis Vuitton, an homage to Stephen and his graffiti bag collaboration with LV in 2001.
